65% Increase in TGST Revenue
The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has reported a 65% increase in Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) revenue compared to the previous year. According to the Monthly Revenue Collection Report published on MIRA’s website, there was a 43.1% increase in January 2023 compared to the same period the previous year. The actual revenue for January 2023 also exceeded the projected amount by 43.6%. The total revenue for the state was MVR 3.4 billion, including USD, with MVR 270.6 million accounted for in non-tax revenue. A total of 112.8 million USD was collected, with TGST accounting for 70.8% or 79.8 million USD. This growth in tourism revenue is due to the increased number of tourist arrivals, which was 8.6% higher than the forecast.
